The Words I Would Say by Sidewalk Prophets
We all care deeply for our family members and friends on good days. We care even more on bad days. And when a crisis hits one of them, our hearts are crushed too. Sometimes we can come alongside and hug and cry and jump in to meet a need. Other times, we are too far away to be of physical help, but our words and prayers can speak volumes of love into their lives. Enter the song “The Words I Would Say” by the Sidewalk Prophets. This song encapsulates the words of my heart perfectly in many different scenarios. For my mom who lives in another state, my friend who lives in another city, or my new acquaintance in the doctor’s office. When I am thinking of, praying for or desperately wanting to help out someone in need, this chorus echoes through my mind unbidden, as words I know they need to hear. Because I needed to hear them at challenging crossroads in my life. Read on and see if you don’t agree.
You’re going to do great things, I already know.
God’s got His hand on you so, don’t live life in fear.
Forgive and forget, but don’t forget why you’re here.
Take your time and pray, these are the words I would say.”
Some of you readers are friends, I love you dearly and you can hear me speaking these foundational truths. Many of you out there read me incognito, but know that I pray for you as well. For those of you walking down a dark road at the moment, in this journey we call life, believe me when I say, I care. More importantly, God cares. May this encourage your heart and give you hope. If I were I to meet with you, I would give you a hug, put a cup of steaming hot chocolate in your hand and as we would sit down to visit, these are the words I would say.
What ministers to you when your heart is hurting? How do you reach out to others who are hurting?
