"Two teens attack one's mom, plan to eat her liver after pill binge..."
This was an actual headline from CNN. I'm over it. It seems like every-time I get on Facebook for a few laughs, I'm met with one horrifying story after the other, all of which are a combination of bad parenting and social dysfunction. I just want to know when we're going to own up to our end of the insanity and start paying better attention to our kids? Side-note: you know who you are.
These parents always seem to blame someone else for their child's behavior, "Oh, little Johnny was always such a sweet boy... I just can't believe he would ever eat the neighbor's cat. I should have never let him buy that Korn CD!" Look... I know there are some things that are out of your control, but if you feel even remotely terrified when you're sleeping in the next room at night, it might be time to reach out for help. I'm sure I'll have my fill of hard times ahead with a certain little someone, but like anything else worth having, it requires me to be a full participant in her life... even if she says she screams, "I hate you!" and slams the door on my rapidly fraying nerves.
No one ever said parenting was easy, but you asked for it; so do us all a favor and act like one! Stop blaming the school, television, musicians, video games and the baby's daddy for what's going on with your kid. Be a parent; but please, whatever you do... don't get pregnant again!
