Turning 30: How The Apple Macintosh Changed The World Forever (VIDEO)

On January 24th 1984, 30 years ago, a young man presented to the world what will become one of the most brilliant inventions of our time, the Apple Macintosh 128K.

That man was named Steve Jobs, a name that will be etched into our memories forever. Jobs succeeded at building one of the world's largest and most powerful companies of our time which started in a dingy garage, April 1st, 1976, with his friend, Steve Wozniak, in Los Altos, California.

First seen as outsiders and college drop-outs, these two boys created what will be the first of many fantastic inventions and the beginning of a huge empire. Called Apple Computer until 2007, the company sold kits to build a personal computer, the Apple I.

The next year, on January 3, 1977, the company was incorporated in Cupertino, California and the same year the Apple II was introduced. Next, the Lisa was built, but cost a steep $10,000 and didn't sell very well. The computer was named after Steve Jobs' daughter. The project started in 1978 and Lisa was introduced to the world in 1983.

And then, in 1984, there was the Mac. The project to design the Macintosh started in September 1979 when Jef Taskin had a vision of a low-cost computer affordable for everyone at the price of $2,495. It was equipped with an 8 MHz 68000 processor, 128k of RAM, a 400k disk drive and was fairly easy to use. He decided to call the PC after his favorite type of apple, the McIntosh. Jobs took over the project in 1982 after living the Lisa team.

This invention changed the way people saw personal computer and how it was used. It was first introduced in the now famous television commercial 1984  and was broadcast during the third quarter of Super Bowl XVIII by CBS on January 22nd, 1984. This computer was the first of a long line of Macintosh models.

Today, Apple Inc. is a multinational corporation known worldwide which offers a multitude of products amongst them, the iPhone, iPad and iPod. In the U.S., we find 250 retail stores with over 100 employees each. Furthermore, Apple Inc. has 850,000 apps in the App Store and in 2013, the iTunes store was the world's largest music retailer. Hence, Apple Inc. is only going to develop more and more in the future.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Macintosh, I found the video of the Macintosh's presentation by Steve Jobs. Check it out, you will see how interesting it is to reminisce about how far the computer technology has gone since then, while looking at a piece of a historic event like this one.
