Summertime gives us free rein to wear pretty much anything we want. That’s the joy of this weather. Bright colors, patterns and skin are in! Now is the time to take all of those fashion risks that you were nervous about in February. Here are 10 of my summer must-haves:
Bright totes hold everything, including frosty beverages, magazines and fruit. It's great to have a few on hand, as you never know what they'll come in handy for.
Ah, the sandal. Let your toes loose! Who wants to keep their feet cooped up inside of a sweaty tennis shoe? There are quite a few forms so everyone can find a sandal that looks great and fits her style.
A few strokes of polish can help anyone's digits look better. I opt for bright pinks, oranges and similar shades for maximum summer effect. You can never go wrong when wearing nudes either.
Maxi and Sun Dresses
Let the breeze take your outfit away. These dresses are lightweight and ultra-comfortable. You can wear them to work with a cardigan or out for a stroll as-is. The best part is they’re a one-piece outfit, so getting dressed will take less time than usual.
Another perfect lightweight option. They scream casual chic. They're perfect with a colorful fitted tee or even a button-down shirt. I love them in khaki, navy and white.
Hats and Sunnies
Two outdoor staples. A great fedora or floppy hat gives your look an urban chic twist. The same pair of sunglasses that you wore during the rest of the year work well here too. Wear them for sun protection but just be sure to protect your face as well. If you tan easily you probabably have learned that “sunglass face” can last.
A large chunky necklace or a pair of embellished earrings always take an outfit to the next level. You don’t have to wear them everyday, but they should definitely be an option in your accessory arsenal.
They’re short enough to keep you cool, but long enough that people won’t look twice in disapproval. You can find them at all price points and they look great on the kids too.
This is SO important. The sun is no joke, and skipping this step could damage your skin in the long run. Apply SPF from head to toe on a daily basis. Use a broad spectrum (UVA and UVB protection) sunscreen with SPF 15+. Read more tips for protecting yourself from UV rays here.
Chapped lips are never in, no matter what the season! And no, petroleum jelly and lip balm aren’t the same thing. Treat lips with a balm that will help fix the dryness, instead of just covering up the problem. For some extra fun, get a tinted balm.
What are your favorite summer staples? How do you bring the summer sun to your wardrobe?
