Mt. 9:9-13 St. Matthew
On this feast day of St. Matthew we celebrate the power of redeeming love. He was the most unlikely candidate-a Jew working for the occupying Roman government, considered a thief and traitor. People come at us with pettiness, knarliness, judgmentalness, telling us our incapable I am, and so on, and we simply respond, "When you want to take our place, the door is alway open." And they walk away. Jesus accepted us for us, called us, and works through us, as he does all of us, and that is the redeeming power of Jesus. Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!
