Like most of America, I sat with my nose pressed against the television screen following the grizzly details of Jody Arias’ murder trial. It was horrifying, and riveting, and very hard not to notice the parallels to Fatal Attraction, that 1980s movie cautioning men to beware of women offering casual sex. It’s easy to write off women like Jody — and Glenn Close’s now-iconic character — as deluded psychopaths (and they certainly are), but are women who fantasize relationships in the face of all evidence to the contrary really all that rare? . . .
