Simple Yet Bold Holiday Nails

Simple Yet Bold Holiday Nails

As a self-confessed nail polish addict (over 120 bottles, anyone?) I absolutely adore the nail art trend that is taking place right now!! However, I don't have a steady hand, so I can hardly paint my nail polish on without getting it on my fingers, let alone stencil pictures and lines on my nails. I am also a bit impatient, so while I like bold statement nails, I like to err on the side of simplicity as well. Attaining simple, yet stylish, holiday nails only requires a few steps and tweaks that I hope you will be willing to try:

Glitter - In my opinion, adding any amount of glitter to your nails is the simplest way to take your nails from blah to bam! I've always LOVED that the holiday season is all about sequins and sparkle, particularly for us ladies. This need to sparkle doesn't just have to apply to our clothes this holiday season, but can be wonderful on our nails as well. Whether you add a touch of glitter to the tips, flecks of glitter as an overlay for a color, full glitter accent nails, or a full-on glitter mani, adding some sparkle to your nails is a great way to bring in the holidays (and wear year round.)

Black - What woman doesn't have a LBD (little black dress) to wear to that holiday party or event? Just as a woman can't go wrong with a LBD for sipping on cocktails around the Christmas tree or watching the clock change to bring in the new year, she really can't go wrong with black nails. They are so polished and chic, work with any holiday outfit, and look great on all skin tones.

Color Blocking - Done in colors of the season like jewel tones, darker hues, or holiday-bright colors, inspired by the colorful Christmas lights that kids and adults alike adore, this is a great way to add pops of color to your holiday ensemble! This holiday nail idea is a bit more complicated than the others.
Red and pink nails

You need to have a hand steady enough to polish each half of the nail a different color, or use the taping technique, which requires you to polish half the nail, let it dry, then put a piece of transparency tape on that half, paint the other side, and then remove it once it's dry. The impatient person that I am, I prefer to try to keep my hand as steady as possible and paint each half of my nail at once, no tape involved.

Red - When I think of the holiday season (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.), red is the first color that comes to mind. Let's face it, from candy canes to poinsettias, red is everywhere during the holiday season. So, why not your nails?!

Red fingernails

Red nail polish is classic and timeless, but also bold and beautiful. If you want to mix it up a bit, you can do red in combination with a color like pink or with a leopard accent nail even, and you can always add a touch of glitter per the tip above.

You may see images around the web for tips on creating holiday nails that involve drawing Christmas trees or Santa Claus on nails, or maybe even snowflakes, which are fabulous and super cute. However, I know there are many ladies, like myself, who love having a great mani, but lack the ability to draw such creations for the holidays. So, these are some simple tips for holiday nails that any woman (or her favorite nail technician) can do without too much artistic skill, but still make a beautiful statement!
