Philadelphia: Northern Liberties Food Tour
If you love to walk, how about a food tour?
Food tours are awesome because not only do you learn fun facts about the city you’re visiting, but you also get to sample tasty treats along the way. The tour guides are usually very humorous, friendly, and entertaining as they show you around their city on foot. Before you get started comfortable shoes are a must.
My day trip to Philadelphia was a real gem! The tour itself lasted about 2.5 hours. Northern Liberties (http://www.cityfoodtours.com/philadelphia/taste_of_northern_liberties.html) is an experimental neighborhood which has been brought to life by a philanthropist whose vision is to design neighborhoods where the residents are within walking distance from work! Northern Liberties is also a very pet-friendly neighborhood. In the center of the village is a Piazza with a newly built living complex. There is an outdoor movie screen which provides the residents with an opportunity to sit on their balconies and watch movies at night. It’s like a “night out” at home! A famous actor (I will not mention his name) already lives in the complex…….
The setting gets even more interesting because across the street from the Piazza, there are additional shops, restaurants and stores that effectively make you feel like you are in a European village with its narrow cobblestone streets and pedestrian-friendly walkways. I don’t recall seeing vehicles in the main pedestrian areas. Obviously, the person behind this idea is environmentally conscious.
By the time your tour is over, you are so content and satisfied with the experience that you might want to linger in the area and have a light dinner. The Northern Liberties tour is certainly a delight!
