The NFL Thanksgiving Day Cheat Sheet

The NFL Thanksgiving Day Cheat Sheet

Thanksgiving and football go together like Thanksgiving and turkey. Seriously! Ask any sports fan or anyone from Detroit or Dallas and they can confirm this.

For me, this is a dream come true - mashed potatoes AND family sanctioned football watching? This is my nirvana. I don't know how you feel about football, but if you are going to be watching any NFL games this Thanksgiving Day, here are a few things that you might find helpful:

The history of the NFL has a Thanksgiving Day game history that goes all the way back to 1920, but The Detroit Lions have been hosting Thanksgiving Day games since 1960. The Dallas Cowboys began their tradition in 1966 and have only missed two years so far. The Detroit game is at 12:30 EST and the Dallas game is at 4:15 EST. There is also a night game, hosted by revolving teams.

The people of Detroit and Dallas take these games very seriously. Do not mess with Texas. Or Michigan.

This year The Lions will be hosting the 9-1 Houston Texans. The Texans are tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the best record in the league. Houston has a great team this year led by  quarterback Matt Schaub and running back Arian Foster. Detroit are a disappointing 4-6 despite having the second best offensive statistics in the league. They were projected to do much better this year. Houston is the favorite to win this game, but I would never count out Detroit at home on Thanksgiving.

The Dallas Cowboys will be playing their bitter division rivals The Washington Redskins. Washington's rookie phenom quarterback, Robert Griffin III, affectionately known as RG3 went to high school in Texas and played at Baylor. This is a homecoming of sorts for RG3 and he is out for blood.  I think he can probably get it from Tony Romo and the struggling Dallas Cowboys.

The third game this year will be the New England Patriots playing their own division rivals, the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mark Sanchez and auxillary backup starting QB, TIm Tebow (don't ask me, ask Rex Ryan) will be hosting Tom Brady (you know, the guy from the Ugg commercials) and the New England Patriots, who have to be about one Super Bowl victory away from being as hated as the New York Yankees. Even though the Patriot defense if having a rough year, with Brady throwing for almost 300 yards a game, New England should be able to win this one away from home.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and try not to eat too much. You don't want to fall asleep before the games are over.
