You Might Be a Southern Mom If...

1. You ever shouted, "Stop your wallerin' out there and get inside before you get your clothes dirty; we're gettin' ready to go out!" For those who don't speak Southern, wallerin' is the same as wallowing and describes when animals roll around in the mud to keep cool. We Southern Moms also use it to describe what our kids are doing out in the yard when they play. ...more

So You're Thinking of Joining an Online Mom Group? 7 Things to Consider First

I have been a member of several online mom groups over the years. In fact, I wrote about What Online Mom Groups Have Taught Me a little over a year ago when I could not peel myself away from the computer. I forced myself to leave that mom site (kicking and screaming, might I add) because my blood boiled way to damn much over what these women posted. I have since joined a smaller, tamer one, but good grief, the similarities are countless....more

Dear Miley Cyrus,

With your recent VMAs performance and now the release of your music video for "Wrecking Ball", I've seen everyone from mom bloggers to celebrities begging you to stop your destructive behavior. Your family initally stood behind your actions, but now seem to be refusing to comment any further, leaving the world wondering if they, too, have joined the Anti-Miley movement. Well, Miley, I'm not here to ask you to stop. On the contrary, I'm here to tell you to Keep it up!...more
Ah Miley! I think if we drop it she will burn herself out. She's fulled with rebellion right now ...more

13 Songs My Parents Probably Shouldn't Have Let Me Listen To as a Kid

I was driving in my car yesterday, and the song "Dead Bite" by Hollywood Undead came on the radio. I adore this song. It's catchy, the beat is awesome, and I'm constantly finding myself singing, "Good night, sleep tight, Don't let the dead bite." That's when Hubby informed me that the song is about one guy hunting down and killing another guy, and possibly mass murdering many others. Dammit, I liked that song. No more playing it around the kids, that's for sure. ...more
Hmmm, I allow my children to listen to the radio, and listen to some songs that are a little ...more

6 Lies Stay-at-Home Moms Tell Themselves

I've heard it all before: stay-at-home moms with endless excuses, reasonings, logic and lies that we tell ourselves (and other people) of how and why we are the exceptions to many social norms. "I'm too busy as a SAHM to be able to do that during the day." "People should understand because I'm a SAHM." "Well, that's easy for her to do because she's not a SAHM." Ladies, it's all bull. It really is. ...more

Mom 'What Ifs'

Have you ever been in the middle of doing something and you stop yourself to think, "Why in the hell am I doing this?"Yesterday I mopped the floors. We live in base housing, so we have this hideous, look-at-it-wrong-and-it-stains, white tile flooring downstairs. I have to mop this effing floor twice a week. Apparently, little spots on the white tile floor have become my largest pet peeve. Sticky spots- forget about it, I'll lose my head. I've been known to pull out the mop when company is over because a spot bothered me so much....more

Check your OCD at the Door and Make Your Kids Do Chores

I woke up this morning to the sound of the dishwasher running. That means the kids loaded the dishes after dinner last night and didn't start it... again. Many mornings Hubby is greeted with a full, yet dirty, dishwasher and has to run it before he leaves for work. It has become a huge pet peeve for us both. But it is to be expected when the 10 year old and almost 8 year old are doing the dishes at night, right?...more

Halloween is NOT a Religious Holiday

Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. Each year as it approaches, I find myself getting more excited, happy and more creative as Halloween crafts and costume ideas come to mind.I also find myself getting more annoyed by people who don't understand the holiday. The topic has come up several times on different mom forums where I am a member. Over and over again I read..."We don't celebrate Halloween because it's against our religious beliefs." or"We don't want to scare our children by celebrating this horrible holiday."...more

5 Things Stay-at-Home Moms Do Not Sign On For

About three months ago, I became a stay-at-home mom again. I've been one before. Heck, I've been everything before: a working mom, a single mom, a single working mom, a stay-at-home mom, a work-from-home mom, a mom who took her kids to work with her. I'm pretty sure I've been in almost every angle of the stay-at-home mom vs. working mom debate, and even created a new angle or two from which to view it. Bottom line: I love being a stay-at-home mom. There are some things, though, that I did not sign on for as a stay-at-home mom....more
