Women Who Choose Abortion Have Feelings, Too

Fourteen years ago, I sat bawling hysterically in a women's health center. My lower stomach had been cramping for about three weeks. I thought I was just ovulating, and that it was normal....more

Dolphins: The Truth About Our Friends From the Sea

Growing up, in film, TV, and books, I learned that dolphins often help out humans in scary situations such as shark attacks. They will bump the shark away from the human. Other times, humans have been towed nearer to shore by a dolphin or two. Flipper. He was fantastic. Right? ...more

A Pop, a Candy Bar and a Penis, OH My!

Recently, BlogHer had a contest for a $500 Visa gc asking about its readers' favorite birth story. As I have no children of my own, I only gladly relayed the story of my first time meeting my baby brother. I was 4 1/2 when he was born 3 weeks early. He actually arrived the day of my mom's surprise baby shower, as is evident by the pained expression in all her photos from that day. ...more

A Series of Unfortunate Events: A Tale of Surviving Adversity

So Much More Than a Mom recently wrote about the events that lead to her breakdown. That got me to thinking about my own little breakdown. My Guilty Pleasure: NYC Prep

It wasn't so embarrassing back in the day when I watched Seasons 1-4 of The Real World. "Everyone was doing it" perhaps only because it was the only reality show that aired in the early 90's. Season 1 was truly an experiment, since there'd never been a show like it before. By Season 2, everyone was tuned in to see the infamous episode where David (Dave Chappelle) "attacked" Tami when she was naked in her bed. Beth tried to cover her. Hilarity ensued until everyone decided to kick David out of the house, because no one felt safe around him anymore. ...more
