Mom's Work Never Ends ... Even on Labor Day Weekend?!

Family Meal Times THEN and NOW

Last night we had friends over for dinner.  I prepared a simple meal of Roasted Sweet Potatoes (my recipe), Crock pot ribs(made up recipe), Quick and Easy Chicken (secret recipe) and a fresh greens salad.  While enjoying our casual meal, the topic of course turned to that of eating and nutrition.  The adults at the table reminisced about meals gone by with their families growing up the meal table a place where family memories are made!  We compared current eating styles in the United States to our own experiences a few decades ago.  A lot has changed ....more

Physical Fitness: Keep in step!

Yesterday I worked out with my accountability partner - my husband.  Over the years I've come to realize my own personal strengths and weaknesses in exercising.  I love keeping in step with a solid exercise regimen and understand the benefits of disciplined physical exercise.  On my own, my strength training personality style could likely be described as "fast and furious" but when coached by my hubby whose degree is in Exercise Science, my workouts are always much more powerful and effective....more

Back to School Hydration . . . Splurge on the water bottle!

A few weeks ago I took my 7 year old daughter in for her annual pediatric wellness exam.  It was a mid afternoon appointment after a busy morning of swim lessons, play time and lunchtime followed by quiet time that resulted in a nice nap before our MD visit.  As a result of our very busy start; when it came time for her urinalysis, this mommy nutritionist realized that our day was missing one very important nutrient water!  Oops!  We swam in water, played in water, even blew bubbles in water but had forgotten to drink enough water!...more
