Should You Look for Love at Work?

A new dating app called The League, currently in beta in San Francisco, allows you to log in via your LinkedIn account ... so it can block your colleagues from seeing your profile. I think it is genius—though you may work closely with people 40 hours a week, you might still want to keep your dating life private. If you are using or Tinder, your photos and dating profile are out there for the world to see....more

I Was NOT Prepared for Dating in 2014

Dating in 2014 is far different than it was over a decade ago when I was last single. Overt sexuality in the media and a high ratio of women compared to men - especially here in the South, I believe, has changed the dating landscape. In my dating life over the past couple of years, the majority of men I encounter have an expectation that after three dates it is time to “put out” or get out. Three dates?...more

The First Year of Marriage is NO Honeymoon!

We’ve all heard the conventional wisdom about marriages, that newlyweds embark upon a “honeymoon phase” during the very first year. When I was married, however, I think that phase lasted one or two months and then the serious challenges kicked in. This was something I was prepared for because before getting married, I talked to my married friends about their relationships. The vast majority of  them said that the first year was the most challenging....more

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and when I think of this particular day the first thing that pops into mind are gifts. 8 Health Myths Debunked (Including What You Can Catch from Toilet Seats)

There are numerous health myths out there that many people not only believe, but repeat to friends, family, strangers, and their children. One of my favorites is "don't leave your home with wet hair because you will catch a cold." Really? Last I checked, a cold is a virus and you have to touch or be exposed to the virus to "catch it." More Women Are Saying "Yes!" To Cohabitation

After a two-year hiatus from graduate school, I decided at 25 that I wanted to complete my degree. I moved from New York back to Washington, DC took out enormous student loans (that I am still paying today) and started my life anew. Shortly thereafter, I met the “man of my dreams” -- and within months, not only were we talking about marriage but I was contemplating moving again to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was completing his Ph.D. at MIT. The decision was a difficult one. I wasn’t keen on the whole idea of “shacking up” because the old adage “why pay for the cow if the milk is free?” ran rampant in my mind during my moments of contemplation. But move I did. It was disastrous. We lasted three months living together, and although we were engaged five years later, I ended it before we walked down the aisle. ...more

I am having surgery on my uterus. It is a tricky situation, because fertility and the ability to reproduce are things that I and many women hold dear to their hearts. Holiday High Fashion Without the High Cost

Every year when the holidays come around, I am inclined to take a look at my closet and realize I am just not prepared. Without fail, as the temps drop my eyes wander to my limited wardrobe and I mentally calculate how I will be able to afford the outfits I’ll need for 10 days in New York, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Although it may not seem like a lot of money to many, last year I spent over $200 on a New Year’s Eve outfit. It was stunning but not very practical. Imagine me walking around the grocery store in 5 inch heels, an off the shoulder jumper and large hoop earrings. I’m sure I would turn heads but not in a good way! ...more
