13 Songs My Parents Probably Shouldn't Have Let Me Listen To as a Kid

I was driving in my car yesterday, and the song "Dead Bite" by Hollywood Undead came on the radio. I adore this song. It's catchy, the beat is awesome, and I'm constantly finding myself singing, "Good night, sleep tight, Don't let the dead bite." That's when Hubby informed me that the song is about one guy hunting down and killing another guy, and possibly mass murdering many others. Dammit, I liked that song. No more playing it around the kids, that's for sure. ...more

I Knew Her When, but I Didn't Know What Kind of Mom She Would Be

I like to say I knew her when. I knew her when her bangs were cut straight across with sewing scissors because the idea of spending real money on a haircut for a kid seemed outlandish to me. I knew her when she would dangle upside down from a metal bar at the playground, do a flip and land on her feet on the concrete while I covered my eyes and waited for the absence of crying. I knew her when she would sit across from me, a single mom with a single daughter, while we ate dinners made with a lot of macaroni and tomato soup. ...more

Keep it Real on Your Blog

It's too easy in the online world to not only try to keep up with the Joneses, but to start doing what we all know the Joneses are doing: presenting the prettiest parts of their lives.  Soon the social media world starts feeling a little plastic.  To combat our tendency to only put our best foot forward, Come What May and Love It suggests keeping it real.  She presents a bullet point list of aspects of her life you may have misunderstood based on her presentation of it. ...more

I Think Kids Secretly Hate Playgroups

Here’s a thought: I think kids secretly hate playgroups. I hosted a playgroup at my house today for the young moms at church, and I really should be taking a nap after all that crazy instead of writing this blog post. It’s really something that you can’t put into words properly. ...more

Midlife Crisis, Truth or Myth

I recently read an article that denied the existence of the proverbial midlife crisis.  Is it true that there is no such thing as a midlife crisis?  Have generations of middle-agers bought into an idea that doesn't even exist, or was it that everyone else bought into the idea of a midlife crisis, while the middle-agers were saying, "No, we're good, seriously."...more

Why We Should Stop Calling Being A Mom A "Career" Or A "Job"

We all know that being a mom is important, but is it really the most important job in the world, as women are constantly told? For that matter, is unpaid motherhood even a "job"? To me it's just another way of devaluing women by insisting that motherhood is so spiritually and psychologically rewarding that you don't need a paycheck or benefits. It really does women a disservice, I think. ...more
