Create a Hero Contest
(For ages 12 and under) Kids use a template provided online at the Project Comic Con website to draw their own super heroes or villains! G.I. Joe artist and guest of the show, Robert Atkins, made basic character templates so the kids can draw in their own costumes. The kids just need to give the hero (or villain) powers, an origin, and a really cool name! Bring the hero to the show and guest judges Fabian Nicieza and Phil Jimenez will pick their favorites--those lucky kids will get their characters drawn by artists at the show! Every child who enters will receive a free comic!
Every Comic Con has a costume contest! Come dressed as your favorite comic book character! Need some ideas? Go to the Project Comic Con website!
The Costume Contest is sponsored by Anime St. Louis and will be held on Saturday September 21st at 3:00pm. Please register for the contest before 2pm (this is the estimated time, it may be adjusted for a later start, but will not be adjusted for any earlier in the day).
This year’s Costume Contest will consist of 3 divisions:
- Ages 9 and under

- Ages 18 and up
In addition each judge will be handing out a “Personal Favorite” prize, which could be for any one costume in any of the categories. Since there will be 4 judges, there will be 4 of these prizes.

Us Make Comic Words
“Us Make Comic Words” is an incredible opportunity for aspiring writers! Small groups will sit with industry professionals and learn about their experiences, insights and answers about working in the field of comics. Four incredible writers will be participating in this event:
Fabian Nicieza a writer and editor best known for his work on Marvel titles such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Cable and Deadpool, and Thunderbolts. He’s created characters at both ends of the popularity spectrum, the wildy popular Deadpool (with Rob Liefeld), and the infamously disliked character NFL Super Pro.
Scott Lobdell has worked on several titles including Superman, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Teen Titans, Generation X, and Excalibur. He has also performed as a Stand-up comedian, and didn’t start reading comics until he was 17.
Joshua Dysart was nominated for the Harvey Award, the Wizard Fan Award, and the Eisner’s Russ Manning Award. He is known for the Valiant title Harbinger, Vertigo’s Unknown Soldier, DC’s Swamp Thing, and B.P.R.D. 1946 & 1947 for Dark Horse. Joshua has traveled extensively to research his writing, and has worked on celebrity's comics like Neil Young’s Greendale and Avril Lavigne’s Make 5 Wishes.
Phil Hester might be best known for his penciling work, but he has authored over 70 different comic titles and hundreds of issues. His creator-owned series The Wretch was nominated for the Eisner Award in 1997 for Best New Series. He has worked with top professionals like Kevin Smith & Alex Ross, and has created and co-created several characters, such as Onomatopoeia, El Diablo, Constantine Drakon, and Mia Dearden.
