Women fighting is often a tough concept to coneive beyond hair pulling, cat fights, or just smacking. But I've covered strong women in the past before - see here and here.
But Professor Roger Mamedov, head instructor at Williamsburg Mixed Martial Arts Academy, wants to see more women in the ring, and it gets better, Roger's routines is designed to teach women how to fight and make sure their bodies stay right :)
He launched a "Mommy & Me" class at his school, located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn area, well more Williamsburg area, depending on who you ask. But it's near McCaren Park.
"The concept of the program (Mommy & Me) is a complete wellness class," Roger wrote in an email. "I tried to develop a program to meet all the moms wellness needs."
It appears that the "Mommy & Me" sessions begin with a unique muscular activation warm up to open your body to its full potential. The next phase is strength and conditioning where Roger devises a weekly full body circuit training routine, focused on cardiovascular, strength and core training as well as body alignment. The following phase is participants' own unique blend of yoga. In the final phase of our Strength, Conditioning and Yoga class, they finish off with guided meditation.
The best part -- your baby can be incorporated into the workout.
"All of my fitness routines allow the moms to choose which they prefer, if they would like to use the baby for extra resistance, to interact with them or to let them rest while they get in better shape then their were even before the pregnancy," Roger added.
Also each routine has a time limit so the moms don't have to feel the need to be able to keep up. they have their time to do what they can; if they need to rest they may. it's their time to try their current best. not better then yesterday nor tomorrow just what they can at the present moment.
Too bad the school is too far from me. If I was in the area, I wouldn't mind stopping by. Roger is easy on the eyes.
