I am Jamie Lynne Grumet: a follower of Jesus, a wife, a mother, and founder of the Fayye Foundation.
My son Aram was born in June 2008.
My son Samuel was born December 2006 and was adopted in November of 2010 from Ethiopia.
We live in Los Angeles and practice homeschooling and travelschooling.
I am chronically mistaken for the babysitter of my children. Ironically, our babysitter is always mistaken for my kids’ mom- even when I’m there! Although never malicious, ageism and racism play a part in why people automatically assume to know our family dynamic (or lack thereof). I hope that, with this blog, people will get a chance to see a family that may look a little different, but is as close and loving as a family that meets the stereotypical ideal. It is time to break barriers, stop making assumptions, and realize that families come in all different shapes and sizes and still define the term.
I will only write about what I know.
People often mistake a mother that practices “attachment parenting” as being so totally absorbed in her children that she forgets about other relationships (most importantly, her husband/partner). It is simply not true for most women, and I want to celebrate the balance of life and family.
I have two purposes for this blog. The first is to inspire other women to make the healthiest choices for their families and have their own identity apart from their children. Clearly, based on our family choices I do not mean to spend less time with family. Rather, I think it’s important to understand that the most healthy example for a child is to see their parents embracing their romantic relationship with each other, as well as their own self worth and individuality.
