Mastering the Smokey Eye and Other Very Serious Matters

I’ll begin this post by revealing one of my guilty pleasures…I’m addicted to watching makeup videos. There, I said it.

Obviously, I blame Youtube. It all started with that chatty-cathy Canadian gal Essie Button. From there I discovered Missglamorazzi and the fabulous Wayne Goss and it was downhill from there. Now I have an entire separate channel devoted to my subscriptions of beauty channels. In the words of Dave Chapelle, it’s like someone took youtube and sprinkled crack on it.

Makeup and beauty products have always been a big part of my life. It started at a very young age. Growing up with my mom and older sister, our bathroom had caddies, caboodles, shelves, and drawers filled with products and samples.

It was heaven.

Fast-forward to present day, where everyone in the beauty-tube world seems to be obsessed with the highly coveted smokey eye look. It’s definitely a look that can give a boring face more of wahwah weewah kind of wow factor because it looks pretty good on all eye shapes and colors.

I’m always afraid I’ll end looking like a raccoon so normally I stick to safer looks, but I thought I’d give it a go.

First, of course, I watched a few youtube tutorials. Then I saw a photo of Angelina Jolie at the Oscars, and thought I'd try and recreate her bronzed smokey eye look. I even made a video...did I mention my fixation with makeup videos has pushed me to start my own beauty channel? Oh dear, here we go down the rabbit hole...
