Super Bowl Snack: Maple-Glazed Bacon Popcorn

Super Bowl Snack: Maple-Glazed Bacon Popcorn

As you all know, the Super Bowl is this Sunday. I willingly admit that I am not an avid sports enthusiast. That is probably an understatement because I’m not an enthusiast at all. For me, the super bowl is all about the food, the advertisements and a great bottle of wine all experienced in front of a nice fire.

This year I am very confused because this game is called the NY/NJ Super Bowl. For those of you who follow my blog, you know that I live in upstate New York. Here, the local sportscasters keep saying the game will be hosted by New York. The game is going to be played in New Jersey. How can two locales, albeit close in proximity, host this game? It sounds strange to me.  Again, I don’t understand sports, or is this all about money?

I’ve spouted off for too long, so now on to the good part of the game…the food. My version of Maple Glazed Bacon Popcorn was inspired by the Feb/Mar edition of Fine Cooking.

Weekend Menu Planning: Sweet and Savory Apple Recipes for Fall

Maybe it's all the years I spent as an elementary school teacher, but as soon as the calendar changes to fall, I start thinking about apples. I do have fond memories of the apples kids brought to school, which always tasted a little better than the ones from the store. But even if they're not delivered by a darling student, apples are especially crisp and sweet when they're in season (from late August to November in North America), and now that it's officially autumn, it's time to put apples on your menu. Here are some sweet and savory apple recipe ideas from food bloggers that caught my eye, and I'm hoping you might try making at least one of these over the weekend.   Read more >
