Make Spring Butterflies With Old Magazines!

Make Spring Butterflies With Old Magazines!

Here's a nifty idea for recycling old magazines-- pretty paper butterflies, just in time for spring!  All you need is an old magazine, some scissors, and pipe cleaners (or chenille stems.)

Pick two pages with pretty colors and gently rip them out.

Cut a large square (about 6 in. by 6 in.) from one page and cut a small square (about 4 in. by 4 in.) from the other page.

I don't usually measure,  I just fold the page over and guess and cut.

Start with the larger square and begin folding at the corner. Fold back and forth like a fan.  You Magazine paper is thinner and easier for little fingers to fold.

Do the same with the smaller square.

Press the folded squares together and wrap a pipe cleaner around the middle.  The larger one needs to go on the top, because butterflies have the larger set of wings on the top.

Gently spread each wing and curl the ends of the pipe cleaners to look more like antennae.

Happy Spring!
