Janet Mock Will Emcee Voices of the Year at #BlogHer17
Three years ago, I read Janet Mock's New York Times-bestselling memoir Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More with one of my book clubs. We were all swept away by her way with words, but also by her authenticity, perseverance, and resilience. Janet told her story with humor, and sometimes with pathos—just like life is lived. And just like our honorees for Voices of the Year have done every single year since we launched it as our community keynote back in 2008.
Just a year or so later, Janet shared one of the videos from the SheKnows Media Hatch kids, featuring kids talking about Caitlyn Jenner, on her MSNBC show. We first reached out to have her join us at a #BlogHer conference back then.
I’m proud to announce that this is the year! Janet will emcee at #BlogHer17 as we honor our Voices of the Year—the most inspiring and innovative creators in our community—for the tenth time. Voices of the Year is the heart of the conference, and an amazing emotional roller coaster, too. It's our tradition to celebrate our community's incredible work on Friday evening, so Janet will take the stage on June 23.
In addition to her bestselling book, Janet has been at the forefront of cultural criticism and analysis as host of MSNBC's "So POPular!" series and as contributing editor for Marie Claire magazine, where she first stepped forward publicly as a transgender woman.
Since that seminal moment, Janet’s writing, work, and media advocacy have been recognized by premier organizations that include Ms. Foundation, Planned Parenthood, and ADCOLOR. TIME called her "one of the 30 most influential people on the Internet," and Fast Company named her "one of the most creative people in business." This year, Janet expands her empire by producing and appearing in HBO's newly released documentary, The Trans List.
Oh, and Janet has a new book coming out in June, which digs deeper into her life during her 20s, and she will be doing a signing after the ceremony during the Voices of the Year reception, so that’s awesome!
As you might know, Super Early Bird ends as the year ends, at 11:59 p.m. ET on December 31, 2016. You can still save $200—that's 50 percent off the full conference pass pricing for bloggers. Register now so you don't miss Janet, previously announced keynote speaker Luvvie Ajayi, or any of the other tricks we have up our sleeve for our lucky 13th annual conference!
PS: We're opening submissions for Voices of the Year immediately after the New Year. Are you already thinking about your best work over the past year, so you can submit? You—yes, YOU—should!
