For years, I'd stand proudly at the counter ordering up my $5 cocktail; secretly hoping and praying the barista wouldn't screw it up. "I'm sorry... I think you gave me a Latte?" I would passive aggressively advise, to which they would grab the cup, roll their eyes, and wait for me to look out the window so they could spit in my new one.
I always wanted a cappuccino maker, but it seemed like the only ones that really pumped out a real coffee were industrial sized models that cost more than my mortgage. About a year ago, while dining at my friend Leah's in laws, she offered me a cappuccino after dinner. It was almost as if we were soul mates, the way she scampered into the kitchen and whipped up a perfect cappuccino in less than one minute... who was she?
Then I saw them: two tiny little machines sitting in the corner. She dropped a coffee pod into one and pressed a button; then she poured milk in the other and pressed another button. Poof! "This is just like being in Italy!" I advised. "Where did you get this fantastic piece of machinery?" For the next twenty minutes, I drilled her about my new best friend, and the next day I got online. Nespresso is one of the best things that ever happened to me (well... besides being a mother), and the money we've saved on my caffeine addiction is worth every red cent. No more standing in line listening to a bunch of posers ordering their cheesy little drinks... now I can make my own!
Nespresso offers espresso machines in a variety of sizes and colors with features to fit all of your needs–I opted for the Pixie (shown above) with the Aeroccino frother (I kid you not: a perfect froth, EVERY single time!). The only downside to this dream machine is that I find myself drinking at least one cup more than I used to, but at $.60-$.70 per pod, we're still saving money! They frequently offer special pricing on their machines, and after doing a lot of shopping around for the best price, I found that theirs actually WAS. They also carry some pretty amazing coffee. My personal favorite is the Vanilio, so if you find yourself ordering one of their fabulous machines, don't forget the most important part: the coffee!
