Hillary Clinton Announces Partnership to Help 5 Million Women and Girls
Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced a partnership between World Pulse and Intel Corporation to expand digital literacy skills for young women in developing countries. The program begins in sub-Saharan Africa.
World Pulse and Intel will collaborate on the ‘She Will Connect’ program, Intel’s initiative to reduce the significant gender and technology gap around the world. Intel has published its research on the gender and technology gap around the world in a report called Women and the Web. Intel hopes to reduce the technology gap with an improvement of 50% in the next 3 years.
World Pulse uses digital media to connect women worldwide and give them a more powerful voice.
Jensine Larsen, World Pulse founder and CEO said,
"We are proud to partner with Intel on this transformative project. While the Internet has changed billions of lives around the globe, millions of women and girls
are still being left behind. But we can take action and provide millions of young women with the digital skills and platform they need to participate in the global dialog and economy to find their voices and transform their lives."
The initial three years of the project are expected to reach five million young women. Intel will integrate digital empowerment training into its many existing digital literacy programs and help connect women with World Pulse community programs and peer network. World Pulse provides a supportive peer network where women exchange ideas, find support and mentorship, and find relevant content.
“In our research we found that women often place great value on the benefit of strong relationships created online with other women,” said Renee Wittemyer, Intel’s director of Social Impact. The World Pulse platform offers an online network to women from over 190 countries. In addition to giving women a place to share ideas, World Pulse offers mentoring, scholarships, training and community support. Their programs focus on grassroots support to grow empowerment for women.
