The seasons of pure hue bliss have arrived -- spring and summer! Everyone's wearing color, bursting into patterns and just being free with their style. When in Rome, do as the Romans do! Please don't start off with the "I don't look good in color" jabber. Here are some ways to ease your way in.
If you're looking to break into color, but aren't ready for a full-blown colorful frock, try a bracelet or necklace. Coral is always a happy "welcome to spring" color. If you aren't ready to wear a pair of coral trousers, try on a coral and gold bracelet with your neutral outfit. On those occasional nippy days, grab a coral scarf or pair of tights. When you’re ready to really jump in, try a coral blouse under a blazer or a thin coral sweater over a blouse. The possibilities are endless!
Prints are a fantastic way to style an outfit. Animal print has been around forever, and I doubt it's going anywhere soon. I have to say, I'm ecstatic over stripes, polka dots, tribal prints -- anything repetitive. But you may not want to prance down the street in a head-to-toe pattern. I get that. Let's ease into it.
- Try a patterned belt to go with a solid outfit, adding a pop of pizazz
- A loafer with a print will wake up any outfit
- A tank or tee with a pattern under a jacket or blazer
- Scarves are always an easy way in! If you hate it, you can take it off and still have a complete outfit.
It is so easy (and comfortable) to wear neutral makeup all the time. You find those colors that work for you with every outfit on every occasion. But hey, it’s spring, let’s do something a bit more fun!! For instance, blondes look great with brown eyeliner. Why? Because it's a safe neutral. Not too bright or bold. But blondes look absolutely fantastic in slate grays, blues and purples. It's an absolute delight on the face. Brunettes, you can do the same! The darker the liner, the better. If you decide not to wear a violet, you can go for a burgundy. Redheads, a dark hunter green would look out of this world! Try it on at home on a day you aren’t going out and practice making it work for you.
If you want to do something else that’s colorful, go with your nails! There are trillions of shades on the market, and you’ll be able to have a more exciting look for an entire week! This is a cool way to experiment with color that won’t be overbearing, and you’ll really get a great idea of what colors will work with your outfits. Chances are, if it looks great on your nails, it’ll look great as a blouse color!
The easiest cosmetics to use for quick color? Lip gloss. It never seems to last all day, so you can apply all kinds of different colors. Instead of that soft brown, try a glossy transparent fuchsia or purple. You’d be surprised at how great these shades will look on you if you use them lightly.
