Eat this Why? Turmeric
Eat This, Why?: Turmeric contains a powerful anti-inflammatory compound known as curcumin. (In fact,Turmeric is sometimes simply called curcumin.) This deep yellow-gold spice has a lightly smoky, peppery flavor. Curries and mustards are where you usually find it.
Now you can find it in most of my Chopped Dressing Recipes. I call this addition, "stealth health".
Actually, you'll find it in the "spice" section of your market!
I have found the easiest way to get this super spice into my diet, daily, is to use it as an ingredient in my Chopped Dressings. Dressing is the most efficient delivery system for many spices and herbs. The Turmeric will slightly enhance the flavor of the dressing, but don't worry it won't turn your dressing into a curry flavored coating. You may not even taste it, but you'll know you've added a shake of ultra healthiness to your meal! (I put 1/4 teaspoon in my Oatmeal every morning and don't taste it)
Why: Several studies have shown an anti-inflammatory effect of Turmeric on patients with rheumatoid arthritis and Parkinson's. This spice helps inhibit the formation of inflammatory prostaglandins and COX inhibitors (the same enzyme-inhibiting substances in medications such as Vioxx or Celebrex).
