Does Technology Make Us Ungrateful?
Recently, I was browsing kitchen appliances online (rock and roll) when I stumbled across this e-book (click on the image and scroll to the bottom of the page).
It really put a lot of thing into perspective for me. Even something as humble and undervalued as the oven has had an enormous impact on human history - yet it’s become a part of my kitchen that I can barely be bothered to clean, let alone appreciate! This got me to wondering, what else do I take for granted? After all, contemporary society is defined by technological progression and our lives are being made increasingly computerised thanks to the efforts of people much smarter than myself.
It's all too easy to overlook how far the human race has progressed in 100 years and I for one think it's important to take stock of my privileges and remember how good I've got it. I mean, imagine what life would be like without an oven? We'd have to build a fire every single day because according to that e-book, the only other alternative would be to eat 5 kilos of raw food! No thank you!
What every day objects are you grateful for?
