Day 29: Music
Tonight, I went to a very special gathering of women. Tonight I went to a Dome Gathering. What is a Dome Gathering? It is a group of women who gather together in this Dome shaped house that looks like something Frodo Baggins would live in. This beautiful hobbit house is hidden out in the middle of the desert.
The women who gathered there at this Dome tonight brought with them food, laughter, stories and musical instruments. We had drums, a tambourine, a crystal singing bowl, rattles made of gourds and goat toe nails. We had belly dancing zills and a few other instruments I don't know the names of.
There were ten of us tonight, ranging in age from 30 to 65, ranging in professions from librarian, to preschool teacher, to firefighter, to dog groomer. We took that menagerie of instruments and we played music. We drummed and shook rattles and even sang. We played the music for ourselves.
Then someone asked, "Why aren't more people doing this? Imagine if our world leaders got together and played music. What would our world be like?" It would be pretty amazing. Someone else commented on how healing it was to hear live music. It's so much different than recorded music. And playing the music ourselves even more so. None of us are musicians. Half of us there (including me) don't have much rhythm. And that wasn't the point. The point was to have fun and enjoy being with other women.
What if we all turned off our TVs and made music together? What would that be like?
I have completed 45 days of Kundalini yoga. I am complete.
