I love television and I refuse to apologize for it. I don't really care if it's considered "mind-numbing" or "wasteful" mostly because I don't believe it is. Sure, there are shows that seem like they'll lower your IQ just by turning them on, but there are also shows whose complex plots and beautiful writing could rival beloved books and plays.
There are a few shows that I love to the point of a comfort. These are the shows I put on when I'm feeling down or bored, when I want something familiar, or when I just want a day of PJs and tv.
I've moved quite a bit. In the almost 5 years we've been married, my husband and I have lived in 3 cities in 5 different houses. Those first few days in a new house can be lonely, especially since most of the moves I've done the unpacking myself while he was at work. A couple of them I did while he was deployed or underway. At some point, I started rewatching Buffy when I unpacked. It has become my go-to for moving. Watching a show I know so well in a new place helps it feel more like home.
Though the last few seasons have come close to ruining it for me, The Office is probably my favorite comedy. No matter how many times I watch it, it's always funny. This is what I put on when I have to complete a task I don't particularly like or when I'm bored and bouncing around online. It's impossible to be sad or bored when I watch this.
Gilmore Girls is what I watch when I can't think of anything else to watch. It's also what I watch when I can't sleep. I realize none of those sound great, but I mean it in a good way; I am always in the mood for this show. his is the show I put on when I'm sick and curled up on the couch with tea and a box of Kleenexes. It never fails to make me feel better.
