The Incomparable Christy Turlington Burns Will Premiere Sneak Peek of New Every Mother Counts Documentary at #BlogHer15
Today I'm thrilled to announce yet another amazing "get" for the #BlogHer15 keynote speaker lineup: Social activist, model, and entrepreneur Christy Turlington Burns!
Turlington Burns will share the defining moment that inspired her to found Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.
And then … she will PREMIERE a sneak peek of the new three-part, short-format documentary, Giving Birth in America., produced by Every Mother Counts. This new feature continues her work to bring awareness to the maternal health challenges that affect millions of women and girls around the world.
This new film will be the latest in a series of acclaimed documentaries on the subject, following No Woman, No Cry and Every Mile, Every Mother. But this new documentary will focus squarely on maternal health in Christy's home country. The U.S. has the worst outcomes of any industrialized nation, and is one of only eight countries where maternal deaths are increasing.
According to Christy, "When I speak to audiences here in the U.S. and abroad, they are oftentimes most surprised to learn that this is still a problem in the 21st century. Pregnancy is not a disease that needs a cure, but it does require our nation's attention and resources in order to put an end to preventable deaths related to childbirth."
Christy was so articulate and passionate when she spoke on the keynote stage at BlogHer 12. She's an amazing advocate whose tireless work placed her on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list in 2014 and Fast Company’s Most Creative Minds in 2013. We're honored that she is joining us to debut the new Every Mother Counts documentary with our community.
If you've been keeping track, you know that our STELLAR keynote lineup includes Selma director Ava DuVernay, actress and lifestyle entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow, and journalist Soledad O'Brien speaking with Girl Scouts CEO Ana Maria Chavez, SheKnows Media's Samantha Skey, and "kids on a mission." Stay tuned for more announcements … and register now if you haven't yet!
