Ask4Recovery - Do I really need to be kind and compassionate to people that bother and frustrate me?
Hello friends! Today’s ‘Ask’…
Do I really need to be kind and compassionate to people that bother and frustrate me?
My yoga teacher says “I see myself in others and others in myself.” At the core of it, we are all the same. All 7 billion of us. The qualities I possess, others possess as well. The way they manifest is a bit different. I was put here to be kind and compassionate and loving. I was not put here to be mean, bitchy, angry, and arrogant. Those characteristics separate me. They are a self-protection mechanism and end up making me feel even worse about myself because I am moving away from my authenticity and truth.
I never said it was easy to practice being kind and compassionate on a daily basis. I recently purchased a car and had to wait longer than I expected for the person to meet me. I was going at him in my head, getting angry, frustrated, and the list goes on. Then, I took a step back. I remembered that we had a common purpose, the car and he was trying to do his best. I stopped the stories and negative stream of consciousness in my mind. When I stopped resisting and just accepted, a feeling of peace and serenity took over. I allowed for my higher power to enter into me and felt at ease. I could then practice kindness and compassion and experience the beauty of it all. I got my car and everything worked out the way it was intended to. Maybe a little different than the way I initially wanted, but then again, I don’t always know best.
