Ana Navarro to Join Joy Reid for #BlogHer17 Friday Welcome Keynote

Over the past year I have found many new sources to follow online as I obsessively follow the news. Perhaps my favorite has been CNN, ABC, and Telemundo analyst and Republican strategist, Ana Navarro.

Her Twitter bio provides a good intro to Ana’s background and her sense of humor: “Nicaraguan by birth. American by choice. Miamian b/c God loves me.” As does the final line of her official bio: “She lives in Miami, FL with a high-maintenance Hispanic man. She has no children or pets, and her plants tend to shrivel and die. She has no hobbies or activities, requiring significant attention span or physical exertion.”

But in addition to the humor, Ana delivers incisive, blunt commentary on current affairs, with exactly zero qualms about speaking truth to power, even within her own party.

Her political bona fides are significant: She served in Gov. Jeb Bush's Transition Team and Administration. In 2001, she served as Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. She was the National Hispanic Co-Chair for John McCain’s 2008 Presidential Campaign. She has advised numerous Federal and State campaigns in Florida and nationally. In 2012, she served as National Hispanic Co-Chair for Gov. Jon Huntsman’s Presidential Campaign.

In other words: When Ana speaks, I pay attention, even if I sometimes disagree, perhaps especially when I disagree.

Having Ana and previously announced Joy Reid together, two huge news commentators who also happen to know exactly how to leverage social media to get their views distributed to an even wider audience, I expect an intense conversation about the influence and impact of news media in today’s landscape…especially the importance of women’s voices in that media.

It is not to be missed.
