So I just found something really cool in my yard I wanted to share with you – definitely something you should try with your kids and for sure going to be a homeschool on going science project!
This is an accidental science project my kids started in the fall of last year. They like to collect things – ALL the things. They come home from walks with pockets full of acorns, leaves and yes sometimes bugs. (Moms of boys know what I’m talking about)
They started collecting acorns from our yard and putting them into a large pile on this – what was a plain old tree stump.
Over the winter the acorns stayed and my kids never thought anything of it. Neither did I. Just another elements to what they call “Kid Club” area in our yard.
In the spring I started to notice little buds forming right on top of the stump but honestly never got close enough to inspect what was going on.
All summer long with each rain that came the buds turned to sprouts and then last week I noticed this
Definitely some new growth. I took a stick and peeled back the leaves gently and look you can see the leaves coming right out the acorns
My kids are quite impressed with themselves and cant wait to keep watching this grow!
I will post a few updates every few weeks on the growth of their “Kid Club Tree”
Do you have any fun science experiments going on in your house?
