CHANGE SIRI FROM A WOMAN INTO A MAN

iphone 1

If you still remember what Raj did in The Big Bang Theory in his dream with Siri, you may understand the importance why someone need to turn Siri from She to He.

How to?
Setting->General->Siri->Voice Gender->Male

RAISE TO SPEAK

iphone 2

Raise to Speak can "raise" your iPhone to your ear and start barking out orders to Siri at any time without needing to touch the Home button.  While Bluetooth earphones give us the ability to pick up phone while driving, what we need is a safe way to answer.  Enter this Raise to Speak option.

How to?
Settings > General > Siri > Raise to Speak

SNAP A PICTURE WITH YOUR HEADPHONES OR THE VOLUME BUTTON

iphone 3

If you have a big face, as I do, it may not be possible to take a selfie while touching the screen.  Now you can take selfie (or any photo) with the volume up button on your headphones. Click the volume + button on the remote while in camera mode to click the photo. Done!

DOUBLE CLICK TO TOGGLE CAPS LOCK PERMANENTLY

iphone 4

The iPhone has an auto-correct function that will turn the first letter of each new sentence into a capital letter. However, you may encounter a time when you want to write something in all uppercase letters. The easiest way is to click the Caps button twice to permanently lock the feature, and click one more time to unlock.

BAN MESSAGE PREVIEW FROM RATTING YOU OUT

iphone 5

Some people don’t want to worry about private messages being observed on their lock screen, especially if the messages coming through are snarky/sexy/off-color. The fastest way is to swipe right to left to banish a banner notification, or you can follow this permanent way of stopping message notifications.

How to?
Settings -> Notifications -> Messages -> Show Subject Field ->Turn Off

SHOW CHARACTER COUNT TO AVOID SPLIT TEXT MESSAGES

iphone 6

When sending messages by iMessage to your friends who use a non-iPhone mobile device, your messages may be split in two if the character count is above 160. This can be avoided if you can keep track of the character count in the message.

How to?
Settings -> Notifications -> Messages -> Character Count -> Turn On

SHOW DIGITAL STRENGTH WITH A NUMBER

iphone 7

It’s difficult to estimate the signal strength if you can only judge from the signal bar. Here is the way to display the signal strength numerically.

How to?
A. Type *3001#12345#* and then hit Call in keyboard
B. After you tap the Call button, you will see the Field Test.

SHAKE TO UNDO/REDO TYPING

iphone 8

Rather than deleting messages word by word, you can shake to activate the undo/redo function. Shake and then click undo when the menu pops up to delete all in one shake. To recover the deleted message, shake again.

ONE CLICK TO SCROLL TO THE TOP

iphone 9

The iPhone 5S doesn’t have a special key to scroll to the top when you’re finished reading a long article. However, if you know this trick, you can pop to the top of the screen in an instant.  Just click the top of your screen at  anytime, and the page will scroll up to the top automatically.

TURN THE CLOCK INTO A MUSIC TIMER

iphone 10

Sometime, you may want to sleep with music playing in the background, but you don’t want to turn it off when you've almost fallen asleep. You can turn your clock into a music timer.

How to?
Clock > Timer > When Timer Ends > Stop Playing > Set Timer > Start

USE MAPS AS A FREE GPS

iphone 11

Apple maps can use the map data cached while you're online, even when you go offline. If you are planning to travel to an unknown area in the future, you can simply zoom into the map area you want while you have data connectivity and add a bookmark. This data will be available even when you do not have data connectivity.

HOLD ZERO TO GET THE DEGREE ICON

iphone 12

There are all sorts of hidden symbols inside the keyboard.  For instance, pressing zero yields the degree icon for when you're writing a temperature.  If you hold down the "$" key, you can find other currency symbols.  Play around with the keyboard to find these hidden options.

DIAL AN EXTENSION AUTOMATICALLY

iphone 14

Let's say you have someone who works for a company where their main line is 987-6543 and their extension is 210.  You can have the phone first dial 987-6543, pauses until the call is answered, and then dial 321 automatically. To use this feature, just tap and hold the star button * after the first number. A comma will show up. Add the second number to dial after the pause. This function is available for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 5S.

DELETE THE LAST DIGIT IN THE CALCULATOR

iphone 14

While it's not particularly difficult to delete the last digit while in calculator, I have a cooler way to erase. You can just swipe across the calculator screen with your finger when you want to delete the last digit.

AIRPLANE MODE TO CHARGE FASTER

iphone 15

There are multiple ways to save the iPhone 5S battery, but only one way to have your phone charge twice as fast.

How to?
Setting->Airplane Mode->Turn On

TUTORIAL: Take Better Pictures with Your iPhone

The best camera is the one you have with you, a mentor once said to me, and I've heard it dozens of times since.
