I was born in Puerto Rico but raised in the United States, so I get the best of both worlds--Fireworks on the Fourth of July and lechon for Noche Buena. If you, like me, grew up in a Hispanic American household, you probably had some ‘splaining to do every time your friends came over.

1) You have a grandma that gives you twenty blessings before you get off the phone, and you only know what half of them mean…

2)  Your mom always kept a random pot in the kitchen filled with used oil. Because that’s good oil, you can still re-use that!

3) Your mom also had life hacks and home remedies for any problem. She insists she’s always right. Unfortunately, she usually is. (Happy early Mother’s Day moms!)
